A warm welcome is extended from the committee of the PWR League to all teams participating in this, our inaugural season, welcome to one and all...good luck to everyone for the season to come and thank you for your support!
The Jet Wednesday league this week, 7th June, saw the Jet Knockout Cup Quarter-Finals take place. The featured YouTube Live-feed match was a top of the table clash between Court Snapbacks and Court Jesters. Chris Horn ‘got the ball rolling’ with the first frame won for the Jesters and it was a ‘nip & tuck’ affair from there until frame’s 7 and 8 where Ian Fountain and Sean Hackett for the Snapbacks took two in a row to start putting daylight between themselves and the Jesters. Frame 9 saw Darren Hope close the gap to just one frame for the Jesters, only for Scott Beasley of the Snapbacks to then leave a 2 frame gap once again in frame 10. Lee McShane and Darren Hope brought the match to level-pegging in the 3rd session for the Jesters with 2 frames won in a row and the match was looking as if it was now heading towards a 7-7 ‘Blackball Shootout’ deciding frame however, Sean Hackett and Jamie Stokes for the Snapbacks had other ideas with 2 frames won in a row leaving a closely run match as an 8-6 win for Court Snapbacks…semi-finals now beckon! Tony Clark’s team PSL Aint Going Down made home advantage count with a comfortable win against Court Kids, and whilst it was a fairly close finish at the end of the first session with PSL taking it 3-2, the second session saw them take 5 frames in a row, with Rob Mills taking the decisive 10th frame, not requiring the 3rd session, to secure safe passage through to the semi-finals. Tracey Allen’s Parkway team took the short hop across the Boulevard to Pat Hensey’s Postie Pats. The first session was a tight affair with the Postie’s taking a 3-2 lead in the first session. The second session however was a totally different outcome. Even with the Parkway being a man down throughout the match, it was still a clean sweep for the games played. At 6-4 up for Parkway going in to the final session, John Roe and Tracey Allen took a frame each, either side of Perry Saunders taking one more for the Postie’s, leaving the Parkway as 8-5 winners…semi-finals now await for Parkway. The fourth and final cup match of the night saw Court At The Bar at home to Court Gimme a Break. This proved to be a relatively easy route through to the semi-finals for Gimme a Break with John Lord and Michael Harrison taking a frame each for Court at the Bar across the first and second session but, with Gimme a Break taking 8 frames, with Carl Watkins taking the all important and decisive 10th frame, this gave Gimme a Break a comfortable 8-2 win. The SCF Thursday League this week, 8th June, saw normal league fixtures take place. The featured YouTube Live-feed match was once again, a top of the table clash, between Court Gold and Quinn’s Muppets. This match was won by frame 8 with Ady Bonsor confirming the win for Court Gold. Sam Boome made it 11 frames in a row for Court Gold before the Quinns got off the mark in the 12th frame with P. Brown and P. Dewey for the Quinn’s taking 2 frames in a row, possible whitewash avoided. However, Court Gold kicked back in once again and took the last two frames for a very convincing win putting a lot of daylight between themselves at the top of the table and Quinn’s, who still managed to hang on to 2nd spot. Heron Warlord’s were at home to PSL Lion’s. The first session was closely fought with G. Tilley for the Warlord’s just nicking it and taking it to 3-2. With D. Clark for the Lion’s taking the 6th frame and the match to 3-3, there was really no sign of things to come, with the Warlord’s taking the next 9 frames in a row, running out as convincing winners for the match. Bluebell R Back were at home to Court Postie’s. This was a close match with Bluebell always staying just in front until frames 8 and 9 respectively where, Luke Watkins and Andy Cook took two in a row to open up a 3 frame lead over the Postie’s. But with Pat Hensey, Darren Hope and Aaron Clark next taking 3 in a row for the Postie’s and taking the match to 6 a piece, this was now perfectly set up for a best of final 3 frames to secure the win. Bluebell came out on top with 3 in a row with Andy Cook taking the all important 14th frame. Court Larking About were at home to Cross Keys Silver. First blood went to Larking About’s John Roe however, Cross Keys came storming back with 5 frames in a row and while Lewis Roberts for Larking About stopped the rot, Cross Keys immediately came back and took another 4 in a row with L. Wilkinson securing the all important win in the 10th frame. The final session was taken by Larking About 3-2 but in the end, it was a relatively comfortable win for Cross Keys Silver.
