‘Gold fire themselves back to the top of the league’
The Stanground Carpets and Flooring Thursday league this week, 7th September, saw Court Gold travel away to the PSL Lions and, any thoughts the Lions might have had of building upon their success of last week where they had their first match victory of the season, were very quickly extinguished. Gold have been hovering around the top of the table for most of the season and on paper this should have been a relatively easy ride, and so the reality proved. Gold raced into a 7-0 lead, including a ‘break & dish’ by Ben Bushby, before the Lions then registered their first frame through Paolo Batista. However, that was as good as it got for the Lions because Gold then took all of the remaining frames including Joel Scott confirming the win in the 9th. This convincing win see’s Gold take back the top spot in the table with a game in hand over 2nd place and, with two matches left, the Lions have got a mountain to climb in trying to lift themselves off the bottom of the table. Final Score: PSL Lions 1 – 14 Court Gold Heron Warlords hosted Court Larking About and proceedings were all squared up in frame 6 with the Warlords Gareth Mears’s ‘break & dish’. The first 6 frames of the match didn’t suggest the final outcome though because, Larking About then cranked up the tempo and took 8 out of the 9 remaining frames which included John Roe confirming the win for the Court team in the 11th frame and, Dee Coogan taking a consolation frame for the Warlords in the 14th. This now sees Larking About sitting comfortably in 3rd in the table and the Warlords embedded in the mid-table pack. Final Score: Heron Warlords 4 – 11 Court Larking About Home advantage certainly proved to be of no advantage at all to any team this week because, as in the first two matches, Crosskeys Silver also struggled against visitors Bluebell R Back. Bluebell took the first session 3-2 and the second, 4-1 leaving Silver the unenviable task requiring all of the remaining 5 frames of the last session to get the win. Unfortunately, this was not to be for Silver as Lee McShane for Bluebell then stepped up and confirmed the win in the 11th and, with two further frames won for Bluebell including Ross Balderson making an impact in his debut game for the Bluebell team with a ‘break & dish’, this win see’s Bluebell holding their own amongst the mid-table pack whilst Silver, slip from top spot into 2nd. Final Score: Crosskeys Silver 5 - 10 Bluebell R Back No further matches to report on due to postponements – reports on postponed matches will appear as and when they are rescheduled. No live streams this week due to all matches being played away from The Court Club.
