Wednesday 25th October Headline:
'Yo-yo’s taught a lesson on the Live Stream’ Court Snapbacks took on the Postie Yo-yo’s this week, 25th October, in the Jet sponsored Wednesday League’s featured YouTube live streamed match, and although Perry Saunders and Kev Pike took a frame a-piece for the Yo-yo’s to go 2-1 up, their team may as well have put their cues away for the remainder of the match because, the Snapbacks took the remaining 12 frames in a row. Yo-yo’s had their chances on a few occasions to advance however, the class between the two teams told in the end and, the Snapbacks made no mistake in taking their chances to secure an extremely comprehensive win in the end which still leaves them 1 point clear at the top of the table while the Yo-yo’s drop down to 8th. Final Score: Court Snapbacks 13 – 2 Postie Yo-yo’s An All-Court affair took place between In The Act and Gimme A Break. By the 10th frame, Gimme A Break were 7-3 up, including a ‘break & dish’ by John Roe, needing just the one more frame for the match win – no pressure on Court In The Act then! In The Act’s Ben Peppercorn and Peter Ransome pulled two frames back before Ian Lea for Gimme A Break halted their come-back and secured the match in the 13th. In the Act did take the last two frames as well to make the overall score as close as it can possibly be but this narrow defeat for them in the end, sees Court In The Act drop to 4th while Court Gimme A Break move up to 3rd in the table. Final Score: Court In The Act 7 – 8 Court Gimme A Break Court Young-un’s secured their first win of the season when playing away to one of the league’s new teams, the Borough Boys. By the end of the second session, the Young-un’s were sitting on a comfortable 7-3 lead needing just the one more for the match win. With Ewan Peacock taking the 11th to reduce the deficit for the Boys, things were looking brighter however, that really was as good as it got because the Young-un’s made no mistake with the last 4 frames by taking all of them, including young Tyler Clues securing the all important 12th. This now sees the Young-un’s move up to 5th and the Borough Boys still holding on to 9th spot in the table. Final Score: Borough Boys 4 – 11 Court Young-un’s Court Jesters made easy work of visitors, the Parkway, with a very comprehensive win. Tracey Allen registered their first frame in the 7th for the Parkway and Reg Miller also took a consolation frame in the 13th but overall, this Jesters comfortable victory, which included Chris Horn securing a ‘break & dish’ in the 4th and Mick Defraine making sure of the match in the 9th, now sees them tied in 2nd place and the Parkway at the foot of the table, still looking to secure their first win of the season. Final Score: Court Jesters 13 – 2 Parkway PSL Aint Going Down certainly made home advantage count when taking on Court At The Bar. The first session went to the PSL team 4-1 and they went on to repeat that same score-line in the 2nd session as well, with Tony Clark securing his team’s match win in the 10th. Paul Machin and Tyler Fitter pulled two frames back for At The Bar but, with PSL then taking the last 3, this ended as a good night’s work for the PSL team seeing them move up to 6th spot, while At The Bar drop to 7th in the table. Final Score: PSL Aint Going Down 11 – 4 Court At The Bar Thursday 26th October Headline: 'Gold not overawed by the Legends' The Stanground Carpets & Flooring sponsored Thursday League’s featured YouTube live streamed match saw the Court Gold host the Court Legends. This match swung one way then the other throughout, with the first session going to Gold 3-2 only to then see the Legends square up the match in the second session by taking it 3-2 themselves. Matt Goodale put the Legends in front for the first time in the 11th but, Gold never looked back after that by securing all 4 of the remaining frames, including Ady Bonsor taking the match winning 14th. This now sees Gold move up to 4th, albeit it still with a match in hand, and also sees the Legends relinquish top spot by dropping to 2nd. Final Score: Court Gold 9 – 6 Court Legends. Heron Warlords welcomed the Quinns Muppets and the Muppets, at 7-3, were sitting on a comfortable lead going into the final session. Any idea that the Warlords still had a chance to win the match though were quickly extinguished when the Muppets Joe Haywood and Anthony Pask took their chances to secure the match win however, with Gareth Mears, Liz Dizney and Dee Coogan all taking their final frames for the Warlords, the match ended much closer than it was starting to look. The Muppets in 3rd have now increased the daylight between themselves and 4th spot, but this loss also sees the Warlords drop one place to 5th. Final Score: Heron Warlords 6 – 9 Quinns Muppets. PSL Lions were up against Court Fat Wanna Be Slim and, with both teams prior to this still without a win this season, this was always going to be a crucial match for both. It was ‘honours even’ by the end of the second session, including a ‘break & dish’ from Paolo Batista, setting things up nicely for the final session. Paolo Batista and Roy Hasdell, for the Lions, then took a frame each leaving them needing just the one more for the match win. Although Wanna Be Slim’s Ewan Peacock did pull a frame back, the Lions D. Clark then stepped up to get his team over the final hurdle in the 14th, a much needed and yet very close victory, in the end. The Court team now move off the foot of the table into 9th and the Lions too move up one place, into 8th. Final Score: PSL Lions 8 – 7 Court Fat Wanna Be Slim. Cross Keys Silver, were looking to make an ‘advance on the summit’ when hosting the Court Posties and, in the end, they ended up with only being one frame short of a perfect score in their attempt to do just that. It took until the 13th frame for the Posties to register a frame win via Craig Harbisher and in doing so, stopping the white-wash over his team but, that really was as good as it got for them. Silver took the final two frames as well and this very comprehensive win sees Silver move to the top of the table with a nice amount of daylight between themselves and 2nd spot. The Posties now see themselves slip to the foot of the table. Final Score: Cross Keys Silver 14 – 1 Court Posties. Court Larking About were up against visitors, Bluebell R Back and it was the visitors who stormed into a 4-1 lead by the end of the first session. With not wanting to let home advantage slip, Larking About then came right back into the match by taking the next 5 in a row, including a ‘break & dish’ by Scott Beasley. The Bluebell’s Danny May narrowed the deficit in the 11th however, with 3 in a row from the Court team then being taken, including Ivan Knight securing the match in the 13th, this match ended with a reasonable amount of daylight between the two teams on the night. The teams have now swapped places in the table with Larking About up to 6th and Bluebell down to 7th. Final Score: Court Larking About 9 – 6 Bluebell R Back. Wednesday 18th October Headline:
'No break given to Parkway’ Court Gimme A Break visited the Parkway team this week, 18th October, in the Jet sponsored Wednesday League’s featured You-tube live streamed match. Gimme A Break made easy work of the first 5 frames in a row and then Reg Miller for Parkway, stepped up and halted the slide briefly by taking the 6th frame. However, even more pressure was then heaped onto the Parkway team with Gimme A Break taking the next two in a row, needing only one more for victory, which came in the form of Beckie Watkins taking the 10th. The final session was a close affair, a 3-2 in favour of Gimme A Break giving the Court team a very comfortable night’s work overall. This leaves Parkway at the foot of the table while Gimme A Break, tie in 2nd place with two other teams. Final Score: Parkway 4 – 11 Court Gimme A Break. The Court Young Un’s took on the Court Jesters and the first session ended in favour of the Jesters with Steve Singh completing a ‘break & dish’ in the 5th. Andy Cook for the Young Un’s levelled the match up in the 6th but any ideas the Young Un’s had that this would be a close match, quickly evaporated when the Jesters raced ahead by taking the next 6 in a row and along with it the team win being confirmed in the 11th by Darren Hope. Mitchel Garner and Ivan Knight took two consolation frames in the final session but it was the Jesters who walked away from the match the happiest leaving them tied in 2nd spot and, the Young Un’s in 7th. Final score Court Young Un’s 5 – 10 Court Jesters. The Postie YoYo’s first home match of the season turned out to be a very comfortable night over their visitors, the Borough Boys. The YoYo’s advance was halted in the 5th frame by the Boys Ewan Peacock and with the next 4 frames split 2 a-piece, it was anyone’s guess where this was to end up but, with the YoYo’s wanting to make home advantage count, they were once again on the march and took the next 4 in a row and along with it, the match win courtesy of Perry Saunders. All in all though, a good night’s work for the Postie YoYo’s seeing them move up to 6th and the Boys sit below them in 9th, in the table. Final score: Postie YoYo’s 11 – 4 Borough Boys Another all-Court affair saw At The Bar take on the Snapbacks and the highlight of the first session were the ‘break & dish’ frames by the Snapbacks Sean Hackett and Jamie Stokes but despite that, going into the middle session Court At The Bar were only the single frame down. The snapbacks went up another gear by taking the next 4 frames in a row leaving them needing only one more frame to take the match. Tyler Fitter did pull another frame back for At The Bar but almost inevitably, the Snapbacks were on the charge once again by taking 3 of the last 5 frames in the final session, Sean Hackett confirming the team win in the 11th. This leaves the Snapbacks with a slender one point advantage at the top of the table while At The Bar, are currently in 5th spot. Final Score: Court At The Bar 5 – 10 Court Snapbacks. PSL Ain’t Going Down welcomed Court In The Act from across the city and this match was certainly the tale of the 3-2’s! This was the score-line across all 3 sessions with advantage going to In The Act, across all 3. Chris Page confirmed the match win for In The Act as late on as the 13th frame and, although each session was close, the overall result suggests a fairly comfortable match win in the end for the Court team, leaving them tying in 2nd spot in the table, and with the PSL team down in 8th. Final Score: PSL Aint Going Down 6 – 9 Court At The Bar Thursday 19th October Headline: 'The Legends debut on the Live Stream’ The Stanground Carpets & Flooring sponsored Thursday League’s featured You-tube live streamed match saw the Court Legends play host to the PSL Lions and, the Lions knew they were up against it from the off by not replying once to the first 6 frames taken by the Legends. The Lions D. Clark and Roy Hasdell did finally register their first two frames in the 7th and 8th but, Darren Hope confirmed the win as early on as the 10th and the legends then almost whitewashed the Lions in the final session taking it 4-1. A very convincing with for the Leagues new boys which now places them clear at the top of the table albeit by the single point and the Lions, down in 9th. Final Score: Court Legends 12 – 3 PSL Lions. Court Posties played host to Bluebell R Back and no better start can you have to a match, than with a ‘break & dish’ that was performed by the Bluebell’s Andy Cooke. Then a match of ‘nip & tuck’ ensued with the Bluebell team going into a 3-2 lead after the first session only for the Posties then to take the next 3 in a row to go into the lead for the first time. Bluebell, not to be outdone, then stepped up and took the next 6 in a row and along with it the team win confirmed by Andy Cooke, with the Posties Kev Boon picking up the consolation 15th frame. A relatively easy win in the end for the Bluebell team that now places them 5th in the table and the Posties in 8th. Final Score: Court Posties 6 – 9 Bluebell R Back. Court Fat Wanna Be Slim were up against the Heron Warlords from the other side of the city and with a very comfortable first session win for the Warlords, the Court team then came back and took the second session making it a much closer match going into the last session. However, the comeback for the Wanna Be Slim team was short lived because, the final session was a repeat score-line of the first and, with Liz Disney assuring her team of the win in the 12th and Graham Tilley’s ‘break & dish’ in the 13th, this turned out to be a very worthwhile journey for the Warlords to have made in the end, placing them now 4th in the table and the Court team lying in last spot. Final Score: Court Fat Wanna Be Slim 5 – 10 Heron Warlords. Quinns Muppets welcomed Cross Keys Silver to their neck of the woods and advantage immediately went to the visitors with them taking the first two frames of the match. The Muppets not wanting home advantage to slip then moved up a gear and took the next 5 frames opening up a sizable lead. The Sliver team were having none of it though and went one better themselves by taking the next 6 frames in a row and, along with it, the team win - confirmed by Tony Brown in the 13th. Len Donelly and Paul Dewey took the last two frames for the Muppets making this as close a final score as you can get. Cross Keys Silver and Quinns Muppets now sit 2nd and 3rd respectively in the table. Final Score: Quinns Muppets 7 – 8 Cross Keys Silver. Wednesday 11th October Headline:
'3 way tie at the top after first match of the new Winter Season’ The Jet sponsored Wednesday League had its first matches of the new Winter season this week, 11th October, and the featured You-tube live streamed match saw Court In The Act welcome the Parkway team. The Court team went into a 7-3 lead going into the final session of the night leaving Parkway in the unenviable position of needing all of the final 5 frames if they were to carve out a win. This wasn’t to be however with the Leagues ‘new boys’ repeating the same score-line of the first session of 4-1, which also included Terry Shaw confirming the win in the 11th and Ben Peppercorn achieving a ‘break & dish’ in the 14th giving the Court team overall a comfortable win in their debut season, which also sees them tie in first place in the league table. Final score: Court In The Act 11 – 4 Parkway Court Snapbacks took on PSL Aint Going Down and this was certainly a tale of the ‘break & dish’ with 4 being achieved overall - 2 to the Snapbacks via Jamie Stokes and Ian Fountain and honours going to Rob Mills for achieving both the remaining 2 for the PSL Team. Break & dish aside, although the Snapbacks just nicked the first session 3-2, they then breezed through the next 6 frames in a row with Jamie Stokes confirming the win in the 10th. Mick Priest and Rob Mills took 2 consolation frames in the last session for PSL but this ended as a relatively easy win for the Snapbacks seeing them tie at the top, at this very early stage of the season. Final score: Court Snapback 11 – 4 PSL Aint Going Down Borough Boys hosted Court At The Bar and by the 9th frame the Boys found themselves 7-2 down and with a mountain to climb. With the Boys then taking the 10th and 11th frames, was a comeback against all the odds on the cards? Sadly no because, At The Bar halted the Boys advance by taking the final 4 frames of the session, including Michael Harrison confirming the win in the 12th. With this being a debut season too for the Borough Boys, this also sees Court At The Bar ending the match tying in first place – plenty of time to go yet for both teams. Final score: Borough Boys 4 – 11 Court At The Bar Postie Yo-Yo’s took the short hop across to the Court Jesters and from the final placings of the end of the Summer League, this was effectively ‘top versus bottom’. The Jesters certainly started off with a ‘business as usual’ approach with Darren Hope completing a ‘break & dish’ in the 9th and Lee McShane confirming the win as early on as the 10th frame - Gordon Wilks and Kev Pike managing to take a frame a-piece for the YoYo’s, all by the end of the second session. Whilst the Jesters then took the first two frames of the final session, the YoYo’s rallied to then take the final 3 frames in a row leaving the Jesters with a win albeit not as damaging to the YoYo’s as might have been expected. Final score: Court Jesters 10 – 5 Postie Yoyo’s Court Gimme A Break took on the Court Young’uns and this was a much closer affair than all the other matches played out tonight. The highlight of the first session for the Young’uns, although they lost it 3-2, was Ben Baker completing a ‘break & dish’. In fact, the score-line of 3-2 was mirrored in the remaining two sessions with Gimme A Break just nicking them on all occasions – Grant Watson finally confirming the win as late on as the 13th frame. Final score: Court Gimme A Break 9 – 6 Court Young’uns Thursday 12th October Headline: ‘Cross Keys Silver set the early pace’ The Stanground Carpets & Flooring sponsored Thursday League also had its first matches of the new Winter season this week, 12th October, and while Cross Keys Silver’s opponents certainly didn’t have an easy ride overall, Court Fat Wanna Be Slim certainly take first prize for the most colourful and inventive team name! Back to the business at hand though, and Silver made no mistake in making their mark on the first game of the season and, although Wanna Be Slim’s Ewan Peacock and Nick Smith took two consolation frames in their team’s debut season within the PWR, this was a very comprehensive win overall for Silver, which included Mick Defraine confirming the win in the 10th, leaving them clear at the top of the table at this very early stage in proceedings. Final score: Cross Keys Silver 13 – 2 Court Fat Wanna Be Slim The featured You-tube live streamed match saw Court Larking About take on the Court Posties, and by the 10th frame the Posties were still in touch at only 6-4 down going into the final session. However, Larking About’s John Roe then confirmed the team win in the 12th with a ‘break & dish’ followed by a further two frames out of the last 3 for the Court team giving them a relatively easy ride over their opponents. Final score: Court Larking About 10 – 5 Court Posties Bluebell R Back welcomed the Quinns Muppets from the other side of the city and this turned into a journey well worth making for the Muppets. They just shaded each of the first two sessions 3-2 leaving the Bluebell team a not too big a mountain to climb if they were to get a home victory. It wasn’t to be though as the Muppets raised the bar even further by winning the last session 4-1 including Anthony Pask confirming the team win in the 12th - giving the Muppets a relatively easy victory over Bluebell. Final score: Bluebell R Back 5 – 10 Quinns Muppets Heron Warlords were hosts to the last of the debut teams for the Thursday league in this new winter season, the Court Legends and as the name suggests, there is more than just the odd decade or two of combined ‘playing years’ between the players in this particular team, and a fine start to their season they made too. Advantage went to the home team in the first session taking it 3-2 suggesting this was going to be a pretty close throughout however, never judge a book by its cover! The Legends then raised the bar by taking the next 6 frames in a row, including Nicky Parnell confirming the team win in the 11th frame but, although the match was already lost for the Warlords, they did halt the slide briefly with wins from Ian Lea and Graham Tilley making the overall results a little more respectable. Overall though this was a comfortable win in the end for the league’s new boys. Final score: Heron Warlords 5 – 10 Court Legends With Court Gold on their travels to PSL Lions, Gold were looking to carry on from where they left off at the end of the Summer League and make a bid for another league title in this Winter League and, by winning the first session 4-1, things were looking good. Paolo Batista did pull another frame back for the Lions but, Gold were soon on the charge again taking the next 4 frames in a row and along with it, the team win which was confirmed by Andy Bunton in the 10th. Paolo Batista and Martin Edgley took two further frames for the Lions in the final session but, Gold, in the end, breezed through to their first win of this new season with all eyes now firmly fixed on the boys currently at the top, Cross Keys Silver. Final score: PSL Lions 4 – 11 Court Gold All live stream matches can be viewed via PWR’s Facebook Page: Peterborough World Rules PWR. The inaugural season of the Stanground Carpets & Flooring sponsored Peterborough World Rules Pool League came to a close this week with the final matches being played out on the 21st September and, Court Gold were on their travels for the final time, away to the Heron Warlords. Gareth Mears kicked off proceedings for the Warlords with a ‘break & dish’ however, with their eye on taking the title, Gold then stepped up and smashed out the next 7 frames in a row leaving the Warlords with a mountain to climb going into the final session. The match win for Gold was confirmed in the 11th frame by Joel Scott and with the final 4 frames then shared 2 a-piece, this comfortable win for Gold saw them take the League Title, with Gold’s Sam Boome also finishing top of the averages in the league overall. With an outstanding fixture for the Heron Warlords for the season not being played out, the Warlords finish the season in 7th spot with Ian Lea finishing top of the averages within the Warlords team. Final Score: Heron Warlords 5 – 10 Court Gold Crosskeys Silver finished the season with no match at all by virtue of a ‘Bye Week’ and, despite also having an outstanding fixture not being played out this season too, Silver manage to hold on to and secure the runners-up spot in the league table overall. Mick Defraine finished top of the averages within the Crosskeys Silver team. Court Larking About hosted Bluebell R Back and while, there was little chance for either team to make much headway on the teams above them in their respective table positions, both would have wanted to have seen the season out with a win none-the-less. Larking About took the first session 4-1 including a ‘break & dish’ from Lewis Roberts and things didn’t get any better in the second session for the Bluebell team with Larking About taking all 5 frames, including Dom Cooney confirming the match win in the 9th frame. Whilst Bluebell did take the final session 3-2, Larking About had no real issues in this convincing win which sees them secure 3rd spot on the final table standings, Lewis Roberts finished top of the averages within the Court team. Bluebell R Back saw the season out mid-table in 5th, with Luke Watkins finishing top of the averages within the Bluebell team. Final Score: Court Larking About 11 – 4 Bluebell R Back Court By The Cops travelled to the PSL Lions and whilst their bottom-of-the-table status was already confirmed for the Lions going into this last match of the season, they also knew that it was going to be an uphill task to try and get their second win of the season too. It was the best start for the Lions though when Roy Hasdell took the first frame however, the Cops could not have responded any better by then taking the next 8 frames in a row with Glenn Cripps confirming the win in the 9th frame. Whilst the final session was a much closer affair with the Cops just ‘nicking’ it 3-2, the match win for the Cops sees them finish the season in 6th spot and with Glen Cripps finishing top of the averages within the Cops team. Whilst the Lions ended the season at the foot of the table, Stephen Edgley finished top of the averages within the PSL Lions team. Final Score: PSL Lions 4 – 11 Court By The Cops. The moral of this final story? ‘Daylight is never a guarantee of success!’ Quinns Muppets hosted the Court Posties form the other side of the city in their final match of the season and this was your typical ‘to & fro’ affair. The Muppets raced into a 3-0 lead, including a ‘break & dish’ by Paul Dewey, only then for the Posties to return the favour by taking the next 3 themselves. It was then the turn of the Posties to repay the favour of the first session by also taking the following 3 frames, with Darren Hope performing a ‘break & dish’ in the 8th, and in doing so, putting a sizable chunk of daylight between themselves and the Muppets….6-3! With the next two frames shared one frame a-piece, it left the Muppets needing to climb a mountain if they were to get the match win by not losing any of the last four frames. With every ball a pressure shot, Anthony Pask, Paul Dewey and Phil Brown took a frame a-piece to square the match up perfectly for a very nervy, last frame decider! Len Donnelly for the Muppets went head-to-head against Mark ‘the Grinder’ Killick for the Posties and this frame saw the latter live up to his nick-name by finally confirming the overall match win for the Posties….a very hard fought win against tough opposition. This final match of the season sees Quinns Muppets finish in 4th spot with Phil Brown finishing top of the averages within the Muppets team and, the Posties down in 8th but well clear of the final 9th spot – Darren Hope finished as top of the averages within the Posties team. Final Score: Quinns Muppets 7 – 8 Court Posties. 3 matches from earlier in the season were also played out this week: Re-arranged from 7th July: Quinns Muppets v Court By The Cops – a close win for the Cops Final Score: Quinns Muppets 7 – 8 Court By The Cops 8. Re-arranged from 10th August: Court Posties v Crosskeys Silver – a comfortable win for Silver Final Score: Court Posties 5 – 10 Crosskeys Silver Re-arranged from 24th August: Quinns Muppets v Court Gold – easy passage for gold Final Score: Quinns Muppets 4 – 11 Court Gold A reminder: The PWR Pool Competitions come to a close next with the finals of the Wednesday and Thursday Singles and Scotch Doubles on 27th and 28th respectively – these will be Live-Streamed out of The Court venue so, log-in to view or better still, come down and support! Thanks! edit. ‘Gold fire themselves back to the top of the league’
The Stanground Carpets and Flooring Thursday league this week, 7th September, saw Court Gold travel away to the PSL Lions and, any thoughts the Lions might have had of building upon their success of last week where they had their first match victory of the season, were very quickly extinguished. Gold have been hovering around the top of the table for most of the season and on paper this should have been a relatively easy ride, and so the reality proved. Gold raced into a 7-0 lead, including a ‘break & dish’ by Ben Bushby, before the Lions then registered their first frame through Paolo Batista. However, that was as good as it got for the Lions because Gold then took all of the remaining frames including Joel Scott confirming the win in the 9th. This convincing win see’s Gold take back the top spot in the table with a game in hand over 2nd place and, with two matches left, the Lions have got a mountain to climb in trying to lift themselves off the bottom of the table. Final Score: PSL Lions 1 – 14 Court Gold Heron Warlords hosted Court Larking About and proceedings were all squared up in frame 6 with the Warlords Gareth Mears’s ‘break & dish’. The first 6 frames of the match didn’t suggest the final outcome though because, Larking About then cranked up the tempo and took 8 out of the 9 remaining frames which included John Roe confirming the win for the Court team in the 11th frame and, Dee Coogan taking a consolation frame for the Warlords in the 14th. This now sees Larking About sitting comfortably in 3rd in the table and the Warlords embedded in the mid-table pack. Final Score: Heron Warlords 4 – 11 Court Larking About Home advantage certainly proved to be of no advantage at all to any team this week because, as in the first two matches, Crosskeys Silver also struggled against visitors Bluebell R Back. Bluebell took the first session 3-2 and the second, 4-1 leaving Silver the unenviable task requiring all of the remaining 5 frames of the last session to get the win. Unfortunately, this was not to be for Silver as Lee McShane for Bluebell then stepped up and confirmed the win in the 11th and, with two further frames won for Bluebell including Ross Balderson making an impact in his debut game for the Bluebell team with a ‘break & dish’, this win see’s Bluebell holding their own amongst the mid-table pack whilst Silver, slip from top spot into 2nd. Final Score: Crosskeys Silver 5 - 10 Bluebell R Back No further matches to report on due to postponements – reports on postponed matches will appear as and when they are rescheduled. No live streams this week due to all matches being played away from The Court Club. Our Facebook page also has a link to the PWR Website http://www.pwrpool.co.uk/ where you can access full and up to date tables, results and competitions. 'PSL Lions roar on to their first win of the season!’
With just 3 matches to go before the SCF Thursday League comes to a close, the PSL Lions finally grabbed their first victory of the season when visiting Bluebell R Back tonight, 31st August. On paper this should have been a relatively comfortable win for the Bluebell team given table positions etc however, Pool can be a ‘funny ole game’….sometimes. The Lions took the first session 3-2 to then go and repeat that same score-line in the second session too although, Shane Wood did ‘break & dish’ to make it 4-3 down to Bluebell at one point – Bluebell now knew they had a match on their hands. Luke McShane and Shane Wood for Bluebell then took the first 2 frames in the final session to square the match up with only 3 frames left to play. Martin Edgley gave the advantage back to the Lions only then for Danny May to step up and once again, square the match up with only the deciding frame left to battle out. Trevor Ware for the Bluebell team went up against Dave Clark for the Lions and it was the latter who gave the Lions a very well deserved first win, seeing them still at the foot of the table but certainly happy in the knowledge that their determination and perseverance has finally paid off. Bluebell R Back now currently reside comfortably in mid-table. Final Score: Bluebell R Back 7 - 8 PSL Lions The featured YouTube Live-stream match this week, saw an all Court affair between Larking About and By The Cops and the former almost took the win within the first 8 frames in a row but, at 7-0 up, Grahame Moulds and Mick Thorpe for the Cops then stepped up to halt the slide for the Cops with 2 in a row of their own – was a fight-back on the cards? Sadly no because, Ivan Knight for Larking About took the 10th frame and with it the win for his team and, with Larking About then also taking 4 out of the last 5 frames in the final session, this proved to be a very comfortable win in the end leaving Larking About sitting comfortably in 3rd spot in the table with the Cops, down in 7th. Final Score: Court Larking About 12 – 3 Court By The Cops No further matches to report on due to postponements – reports on these will appear as and when they are rescheduled. here to edit. Wednesday 23rd August Headline:
'The Snapbacks not tested in winning the Knockout Cup’ With the Court Jesters rounding off the Jet Wednesday League last week by taking the overall League Title, it was down to the division’s 2nd and 3rd placed teams to fight it out this week, in the Jet Wednesday Knockout Cup Final, 23rd August, this week’s featured YouTube Live-stream match. Court Snapbacks took on the Court Gimme A Break team and, considering their respective final table positions of last week, on paper this would suggest a closely fought match. It was Gimme A Break who took ‘first blood’ with a great clearance from Mick Thorpe but, with the Snapbacks then replying with 4-in-a-row, Gimme A Break knew they had a match on their hands! Gimme A Break’s Beckie Watkins halted the slide by taking the 6th frame however, that’s as good as it got for them because, the Snapbacks repeated the first sessions score-line by once again, taking the next 4-in-a-row, with Scott Beasley taking the 10th frame and in doing so, sealing the win and the Cup for the Snapbacks with a session to spare – it’s now all about, of course, the Snapbacks defending the Cup next season! Thursday 24th August Headline: ‘Posties fail to deliver on home-turf’ The Stanground Carpets & Flooring Thursday League, still with 3 weeks to go to conclusion, saw Court Posties host the Bluebell R Back team in tonight’s, 24th August’s, featured YouTube Live-stream match. First session went to Bluebell 3-2 with the Posties coming back and repeating the same score-line in the second session, tying things up nicely going into the final 5 frames. Any ideas that this match was going to ‘go to the wire’ were quickly dispelled though with the Posties never getting a look in, with Bluebell taking all 5 remaining frames including, Lee McShane confirming the win in the 13th, giving them an overall comfortable win. This leaves them securely in mid-table and the Posties themselves lower down and perhaps also with just the one eye over their shoulders looking at the team currently in last place. Crosskeys Silver took on Court Larking About and Silver certainly did their own potential title winners credentials no harm at all with a very comfortable. Larking about didn’t let Silver have it all their own way though with Ivan Knight and Lewis Roberts completing a ‘break & dish’ each however, the match was put beyond doubt as Silver’s Mick Defraine confirmed the win as early as the 11th frame. This win also see’s Silver taking advantage of the fact that the current table-toppers, prior to tonight’s matches Court Gold, had no match this week and has Silver now topping the table, for now. Larking About still hold on to 3rd spot, albeit now with less of an advantage over 4th place. The PSL Lions hosted the Heron Warlords from across the other side of the city and bottom of the table Lions came extremely close to achieving their first win of the season in this closely fought match. At one point the Lions were 5-2 down but then rallied very well to nip into the lead for the first time by then taking the next 4 frames in a row. Advantage then swung back to the Warlords favour once again with Ian Lea and Gareth Mears taking 2 in a row with two frames left to play. The Lions Martin Edgley then ensured the match was going into a final frame decider by taking the 14th - 7 apiece! A tense final frame saw Roy Hasdell take on Dee Coogan with the latter finally confirming the win for the Warlords – a case of ‘so near yet so far’ for the Lions. Whilst this leaves the Warlords still firmly entrenched in the ‘mid-table pack’, it also sees the Lions still propping up the rest of the table. 'Jesters round off the season in style!’
The featured YouTube Live-stream match this week, 16th August, saw the Court Jesters wind up the first season of the PWR Jet Wednesday League tonight with a resounding victory against the Parkway team. Jesters top-of-the-table status was already confirmed in the penultimate match last week and this week was really now about who topped the averages table. The match itself was won for the Jesters by frame 9, with Amanda Lethbridge taking the solitary frame for Parkway. John Roe took his last two consolation frames for the Parkway, which also saw him top out as the highest in the averages for the Parkway team however, with Andy Bunton winning the 15th and very last frame of this season for the Jesters with a ‘break & dish’, this comfortable win for the Jesters saw them finish the season as Champions. It also saw its captain Ady Bonsor and team-mate Mick Defraine finish tied at the top of the averages in the league overall. Parkway finished the season in 6th position. Court Snapbacks confirmed their runners-up position for the season against Court At The Bar. Snapbacks however didn’t have it all their own way in the first two sessions with the match being all-square at 5-5 going into the last. Wanting themselves to also finish off the season in style, the Snapbacks made no mistake by taking the last 4 of 5 frames with Sean Hackett confirming the win in the 14th frame, which also saw him placed highest in the averages for the Snapbacks team. Court At The Bar finished in 7th position, with James Bennett finishing top of the averages within the Court At The Bar team. It was always going to be an uphill task for the Postie Pats to lift themselves off the bottom of the table going into the last game of the season when hosting PSL Aint Going Down. The PSL team took the first session 3-2 only for the Pats to then repeat the same score-line in the second, all square going in to the final session. Advantage then swung back in the direction of PSL by winning 4 of the last 5 frames, with Tony Clark taking the all important 13th frame. This win sees PSL placing 5th as a final position in the table and, Kris Lord topping out as highest in the averages for the PSL team. Postie Pats finished foot of the table but this season’s finale also saw Martyn Allen finish highest in the averages for the Postie Pats team. Court Kids rounded off the season with a very good win against Court Gimme A Break. The kids started off strongly with a 4-1 first session win. They also took the second session leaving Gimme A Break the unenviable task of needing to win all of the remaining 5 frames going into the last session. The 11th frame however, saw young Tyler Clues dash the hopes of the Gimme A Break team by securing the win for the Kids and, with both teams then sharing the spoils of the last 4 frames, this match sees the Kids, despite only winning 4 matches across the season, finish in 4th position overall with Joe Haywood top of the averages within the Kids team. Court Gimme A Break finished in 3rd position in the table with Beckie Watkins finishing 3rd overall in the leagues averages. ‘Silver stay strong whilst facing the Lions!’ With the Stanground Carpets & Flooring Thursday League being still a few short weeks away from finishing, the 17th August saw league ‘business as usual’. Crosskeys Silver welcomed the PSL Lions team and at one frame a-piece, things were looking steady enough for the Lions team however, Silver then really cranked it up and showed exactly why they are vying for top spot in the table. By taking the next 8 frames in a row, including the match winning frame in the 9th by Tony Brown, this was now about ‘damage limitation’ for the Lions. They did start to stage a mini come-back by taking two frames in a row through Dave Clark and Anthony Magnus going into the last session however, it was all too little too late -Silver rubber-stamped the match by taking the last 3 frames leaving them with a very comfortable win keeping them in 2nd spot in the table and still keeping tabs on the top spot. The Lions are still rooted to the foot of the table with an uphill task in trying to lift themselves off. An ‘all Court’ affair saw Gold take on the Cops and, this convincing win for Gold sees them keep 2nd placed Crosskeys Silver at bay in the overall table. Gold’s Ben Bushby secured the win as early on as the 9th frame, preceded by Andy Bunton’s ‘break & dish’ in the 8th and, while Glenn Cripps and Craig Harbisher took two more consolation frames late on for the Cops, Court Gold did as much as they could to keep as much daylight between them in 1st spot and the rest of the chasing pack. The Cops remain in 7th spot, albeit tied on points with the Heron Warlords in 6th. Court Posties took the trek across the City to the Heron Warlords. Prior to this match, both teams were only 4 points apart in the lower half of the table but all that was about to change. Carl Rands for the Warlords won the match as early on as the 9th frame, with Graham Tilley also putting away a ‘break & dish’ – the Posties picking up a single frame through Aaron Clark by this point. Going into the final session and with the match already lost for the Posties, it was another straight forward affair with the Warlords taking four of the last five frames – again, with Aaron Clark picking up another single frame for the Posties. This convincing win for the Warlords sees them move up the table to 6th but also sees no change in table position for the Posties remaining in 8th spot. The final match this week was about as close and ‘nip & tuck’ as any match could possibly be which saw Bluebell R Back hosting Quinns Muppets. In a nutshell, advantage swung one way and then the other with never more than one frame in it. It took right up until the very last 15th and deciding frame to finally find an overall winner. Up stepped Luke Watkins for the Bluebell team and Len Donnelly for the Muppets with the former, just nicking it for Bluebell in the end. A very close run thing throughout which leaves Bluebell still mid-table in 5th and the Muppets just above them in 4th spot, albeit still with some considerable daylight between them both. . ‘Jesters take the League Title with a match to spare’
The Jet Wednesday league, 9th August, saw the penultimate week of the PWR’s Inaugural Season take place and the Court Kids took on top of the table, Court Jesters. Big mention goes out firstly to young Tyler Clues of the Kids team…up to the start of last week’s match, he hadn’t picked up a single win in 17 attempts however, while then picking up 2 frames in a row last week, his first gaining rapturous applause, he then follows it up this week with another very good win in the matches’ first frame of the night – if awards were given out for patience and determination then Tyler Clues would have an abundance of trophy’s already as part of his collection. The Kids then followed up the first frame win with a second by Joe Haywood, was a shock win on the cards for the Kids? Sadly no because the Jesters came straight back with 5 in a row. Then for the Kids, Ryan Anderson’s ‘break & dish’ in the 8th and Ivan Knight taking the 10th frame, kept them still in touch with the Jesters going in to the last session. However, the Jesters showed their true pedigree once again and took the last 4 out of 5 frames, including Chris Horn taking the all important match winning 13th frame, to see them take the League Title with still a match to spare. Whilst there’s no change in the league table position for the Kids, for the Jesters now it’s all about the fight for the top of the rankings! The featured YouTube Live-stream match saw PSL Aint Going Down pay a visit to Court At The Bar. PSL started strongly taking the first two frames only for At The Bar to then square things up and then also edge in front by the end of the first session. However, PSL really turned the heat up on the Court team by taking the next 7 frames in a row which also saw Rob Mills taking the all important 11th match winning frame. The last 4 frames saw both teams take 2 apiece however, this convincing win for PSL now see’s them just shading the table position over At The Bar by the single point, in the lower half of the table. 2nd in the table Court Snapbacks needed both an outstanding win against the bottom of the table, Postie Pats and for the Court Jesters to majorly slip up against their opponents for them to have any chance of a sniff at the league title but of course, all the Snapbacks could do was ‘look after their own end’ of the matter. They started off well enough by taking the first session 4-1 which included a ‘break & dish’ by Snapbacks Jamie Stokes. The 2nd session beckoned and up stepped Mick Sell to stop the rot for the Pats in the 6th frame however, the Snapbacks immediately piled the pressure back on by taking the next 3 frames including another ‘break & dish’ but this time by Sean Hacket which left the Pats needing to win all of the remaining 6 frames if they were to avoid defeat. However, with the Snapbacks taking 3 of the last 5 frames, although a comfortable one, this win has seen them miss out on the league title in this penultimate week but, as long as no major slip-ups in their final match occur next week, 2nd spot in the table is all-but assured. For the Postie Pats though, it may be a ‘bridge too far’ for them to lift themselves off the bottom of the table. Court Gimme A Break hosted the Parkway team and whilst it was a close affair in the first session with Gimme A Break just shading it, the Court team then went one frame better in the middle session, which included a ‘break & dish’ by Mick Thorpe, to give Gimme A Break a 7-3 lead going into the last session. Amanda Nash then stepped up for Parkway to reduce their deficit to just the two frames but Mick Thorpe of the Court team was having none of it and took the 12th frame and along with it, the match win for the Court team. With Gimme A Break also taking the next two frames out of the last 3, again, this relatively comfortable win for them sees no change in table position for either but, does see the points between them increase which all but assures the Court team finishing in 3rd spot for the season, come the end of the final match next week and, with the Parkway team, tying on points mid-table with the Court Kids. ‘Bluebell move ‘Back’ up the table’ The Stanground Carpets & Flooring Thursday League, 10th August, saw the featured YouTube Live-stream match between Court By The Cops and Bluebell R Back as the away team, took full advantage of their chance to ‘shine’ for an online audience. With only 3 points separating these mid-table teams prior to the start of this match in favour of the Cops, it was the Court team that just shaded the first session. With only one frame in it at the start of the second session, the Bluebell team really cranked it up a notch or three by then taking the next 6 frames in a row with Shane Woods taking the all important match win in the 11th frame. Consolation frames won for the Cops were taken by Steve Singh and Adam Degan in the last session but, with 3 further frames also won for the Bluebell team, this gives them a much needed win and sees them move up into 6th spot, with the Cops still holding on to 5th. The Heron Warlords took themselves away to the Quinns Muppets and it was the latter that made their mark early on by storming into a 4-1 lead, which included a ‘break & dish’ by Phil Brown, by the end of the first session and, whilst the Warlords then came back and took the next session 3-2, they still gave themselves an uphill task going into the last session by still being two frames down. The final session proved to be very decisive indeed with the Muppets taking the next 4 frames in a row, including Anthony Pask confirming the win in the 12th and, with Ian Lea picking up the 15th and final consolation frame for the Warlords, this sees the Muppets hold on to 4th spot in the table and the Warlords moving up a spot into 7th. The PSL Lions hosted the Court Larking About Team and this was certainly a tale of the ‘break & dish’. With 3 ‘break & dish’ games won for Larking About, with one for Lewis Roberts and two for John Roe, this really set the tone for the night. The Court team never lost a session with a 4-1, 3-2 and another 3-2 win in the last session, which included John Roe’s 2nd ‘break & dish’ confirming the win, this sees Larking About hold on to 2nd spot in the table, just…due to 3rd placed Crosskeys Silver having 2 games in hand and, the Lions are left still deeply rooted to the foot of the table. A rearranged match also took place this week from a postponement earlier in the season (4/5/17). Crosskeys Silver hosted Court By The Cops with the former taking the relatively close match 9-6, including Lloyd Firth-Robinson confirming the win for Silver in the 13th frame. Can the Jesters be 'Court'?
The Jet Wednesday league, 26th July, saw top of the table Court Jesters taking themselves away to PSL Aint Going Down and this comfortable win for the Jesters sees them still yet to lose a match this season. Whilst PSL were remained in touch with the Jesters at only 6-4 down after the first two sessions, the Jesters made no mistake with the final session by taking all 5 frames with Andy Bunton confirming the team win in the 12th. This win for the Jesters sees them extend their almost unassailable lead at the top of the table but, also sees the PSL team slip one ?place to 6th. The featured YouTube Live-stream match saw Court At The Bar taking on the Court Kids, and it was the latter making a good start by taking the first session 3-2. However, At The Bar were having none of it by then forging ahead and taking the next 7 frames in a row with Michael Harrison securing the match in the 11th. Whilst Ryan Anderson and Joe Haywood took 2 further consolation frames late on for the Kids, this comfortable win for At The Bar sees them move further away from the bottom of the table but, also sees the Kids move up one place into 5th spot, despite their loss. Another ‘all court’ clash saw Court Snapbacks take on Court Gimme A Break and with the latter holding on to 2nd spot in the table by a single point and the snapbacks in 3rd going into this match, a lot was at stake for both teams. Liam Ayres’s ‘break & dish’ certainly contributed to the first session win of 3-2 for the Snapbacks and, with achieving the same score-line in the second session too, Gimme A Break were still in touch with the match, just. Whilst Mick Thorpe for Gimme A Break then reduced the deficit to just the single frame in the 11th, the ‘Snapbacks’ lived up to their name by taking the remaining 4 frames in a row with Sean Hackett confirming the win in the 13th, seeing the two teams now swap places in the league table. With only 3 matches left to play before the season’s end, the Postie Pats are running out of time in seeing themselves lift off the bottom of the table and, they did themselves no favours in this regard when hosting the Parkway team this week. Mid-table Parkway took a 3-1 lead at one point only for the Posties to level things at 3-3. With the score-line at 4-4 by the end of the 8th frame, it was difficult to see who would eventually see the match out however, Parkway then took the next two frames to take a reasonable lead going in to the final session. With Parkway repeating the same score-line of the previous two sessions of 3-2 and with John Roe securing them their win in the 14th, this leave them with no change in their 4th spot table position for Parkway but, it does however, leave the Postie’s with a mountain to climb. No 'Larking About' against the Posties The Stanground Carpets & Flooring Thursday League, 27th July, saw Court Larking About take on the Court Posties and this was about as easy as it could possibly get for the Larking About team with a complete white-wash over the Posties. What contributed to this defeat for the Posties? Firstly, they did have their chances but failed to take all of them whilst Larking About on the other hand, didn’t waste their opportunities. Secondly, and like one or two other teams in this league, Larking About possess two or three players that have that innate ability to pull out a result from seemingly impossible positions and, on that note, a particular mention of youngster Luke Gilbert who made his PWR debut tonight with 3 very convincing frames won. His tremendous pedigree, already built up for someone so young through his Interleague and County experience, really shone through and massively contributed to the team win - definitely a name to look out for in the future. Final shout out too to Ivan Knight. It’s fair to say that nobody likes to be the ‘only’ losing player on a team win and so, unlike on two previous occasions before when his team were on the brink of delivering the same ‘lesson’ as they did tonight only to fall at the final hurdle and not quite take all 15 frames, he managed to hold his nerve this time round and helped to see his team secure an outstanding result which sees Larking About jump back into 2nd spot in the table and the Posties staying in 8th. The featured YouTube Live-stream match saw Court By The Cops host Crosskeys Silver. The match was all square by the end of the 4th frame however, Silver then threw down the gauntlet and piled the pressure back on to the home team by taking the next 5 frames in a row leaving the Cops with the unenviable task requiring all of the remaining 6 frames if they were to get a result. Glenn Cripps of the Cops got the ball rolling by winning the 10th frame however, with 3 frames then won in a row by Silver, including Tony Brown confirming the win in the 11th, this gave Silver a relatively straight forward win in the end which sees them drop to 4th spot, albeit with games in hand, and the Cops now move up to 6th. PSL Lions took the trek across to the other side of the city to take on the Quinns Muppets. On form and table positions alone, this should have been a relative breeze for the Muppets on home turf however, never ‘judge a book by its’ cover they say, and so it proved. This was as about as closely fought a match as it could possibly get. The Lions went 2-0 up only to be pegged back to 2-2. Over the next 10 frames a pattern immerged with the Lions going a frame ahead only to then see the Muppets draw back level each time. This continued up to and including the penultimate frame where, at 7 frames apiece, Paul Dewey of the Muppets took on Stephen Edgley of the Lions in this match decider with the former, securing the win for the Muppets - the one and only time they went in front. This closely fought win for the Muppets sees them move up to 3rd spot in the table and, whilst the Lions narrowly miss out on their first win of the season, it does see them reduce the deficit between themselves in 9th and the Posties in 8th spot. Top of the table Court Gold welcomed Bluebell R Back. The match was level-pegging at 2-2 by the end of the 4th frame but Gold started to create a decent lead by taking the next 2 frames through Andy Bunton and Joel Scott. Lee McShane for Bluebell halted the slide by reducing the deficit to just the one frame however, Gold kicked back in with three in a row leaving the pressure back on the Bluebell team not needing any more losses if they were to take this match. Gold, of course, had other ideas by finally securing the match through Sam Boome’s ‘break & dish’ in the 12th frame and, not to be outdone, Gold’s Ady Bonsor himself all but wrapped things up with a ‘break & dish’ of his own. This now leaves Gold with an increased lead at the top and the Bluebell team still mid-table in 5th spot. The Jet Wednesday league, 19th July, featured the YouTube Live-stream match with Court Gimme A Break hosting the Postie Pats. The Posties did themselves no favours at all in trying to lift themselves off the bottom of the league table by allowing Gimme A Break to take the first 10 frames in a row with Beckie Watkins securing the win in the 8th frame and, while new signing Mick Sell and Martyn Allen took the consolation 11th and 15th frames for the Posties, this was certainly a night to forget as they now see themselves 4 points adrift at the foot of the table but with Gimme A Break moving up into 2nd spot.
An all ‘Court’ affair took place with the Jesters taking on At The Bar. By the end of the second session, they were all tied at 5 frames a-piece with each taking a session 3-2. Whilst it looked like a close finish may have been on the cards going into the final 5 frames, Court Jesters moved up a gear by taking 4 out of 5 including a ‘break & dish’ by Darren Hope giving the Jesters a relatively comfortable win increasing their lead at the top but, with Court At The Bar also lifting themselves off the bottom of the table. Parkway hosted Court Snapbacks and this match proved to be a real battle. Parkway stamped their authority on proceedings by taking the first session 4-1 only to then see the Snapbacks return the favour leaving things all tied going in to the final session. James Harford put Parkway back in front only then for the Snapbacks Jamie Stokes to level things up again. Parkway went back in front through Craig Scothern just to be pegged back again by Snapbacks Shane Wood. Pressure was now on in the 15th frame decider which saw the Snapbacks finally take the win through Scott Beasley. This closely contested match see’s Snapbacks drop one place to 3rd in the table but also has Parkway moving up one spot into 4th. PSL Aint Going Down saw their recent good form come to an end when playing away to the Court Kids. At only 6-4 down by the end of the second session, PSL were still in the match however, the Kids had other ideas and kicked on by taking 4 out of the last 5 frames in the final session to take an overall convincing win which included a ‘break & dish’ by Ryan Anderson. This leaves no change in table position for the Kids but does see PSL drop one place to 5th and leave both teams tied on the same points. Thursday 20th July’s featured You-tube live stream saw the league give way to the PWR’s Jet Knockout Cup Final seeing Crosskeys Silver and Court Gold go head to head and it was the former that set the pace early on and put the pressure on Gold by going into a 3-0 lead. Court Gold responded by then taking the next 3 frames to square things up. Luke Wilkinson put Silver ahead once again only for Gold’s Andy Bunton to bring proceedings back to level pegging. Just as a pattern was starting to appear, Gold showed exactly why they are top of the league by kicking in once again and taking the next 3 frames in a row, heaping the pressure back on to their opposition. Silver’s Luke Wilkinson started to close the gap with a very good frame won taking the match to 7-5. The 13th frame then beckoned with Gold’s Joel Scott stepping up to take his turn and try and get his team over the winning line and, what a great way to win the match it turned out to be with a superb ‘break & dish’ taking with it not only the win, but more importantly, the winners of the first ever Jet Knockout Cup in the PWR’s Inaugural season! The Stanground Carpets & Flooring Thursday League also saw two matches played out this week postponed from earlier in the season. Firstly, Court Gold were at home to PSL Lions, 17th July, and this turned out to be a relative breeze for Gold as this ‘top v bottom’ of the table clash might have suggested. Whilst it was only 1-1 by the end of the second frame, Gold then cranked it up and took the next 12 frames in a row, including a ‘break & dish’ each from Joel Scott and Sam Boome. Whilst Stephen Edgley took a consolation 15th frame for the Lions, this result has left the Lions deeply rooted at the foot of the table and Gold with plenty of daylight between themselves at the top, and their nearest rivals. Court Larking About hosted Quinns Muppets, 20th July, and this turned out to be a classic, closely fought match with no obvious winner until the very last frame. Larking About took the first session 3-2 only for the Muppets to repeat the same score-line in the second session – all square at 5-5. The last session saw the Muppets edge in front only for Larking About to square things up once again – this was repeated again in the 13th and 14th frames taking the match to a last frame decider with the Muppets Ryan Anderson securing the win for his team. This leaves Larking About just shading the table position over the Muppets, but by only 3 points. The Jet Wednesday Knockout Cup entered the Semi Final stage this week, 12th July. PSL Ain’t Going Down were hosted by Court Gimme A Break and were certainly hoping that their recent league form that has seen them rise up the league table, stood them in good stead for this crunch semi-final match. All hope of this happening though quickly evaporated when, by the end of the first session, Gimme ABreak were 4-1 up. PSL didn’t fare any better in the second session with Gimme A Break repeating the same score-line of the first session. While Rob Mills and Kris Lord took 2 frames overall for PSL, Carl Watkins sealed the comfortablewin for Gimme A Break in the 10th frame.
The featured YouTube Live-stream match for the second semi-final of the Jet Wednesday Knockout Cup saw Parkway take on Court Snapbacks at home. Parkway’s John Roe put the home team ahead in the first frame of the match however, that was as good as it got for Parkway. The Snapbacks took the next 8 frames in a row with Sean Hackettsealing the straightforward win in the 9th frame with a ‘break & dish’. **Court Snapbacks now take on Court Gimme A Break in the Jet Wednesday Knockout Cup Final on 23rd August – this will be a Featured You-tube Live-Stream match** The Stanground Carpets & Flooring Thursday League, 13th July, had the featured YouTube Live-stream match between Court Posties and Quinns Muppets. This was a relatively close match with the Muppets just shading each of the first two sessions 3-2 a-piece. Moving in to the final session, Darren Hope and Ryan Reed took a frame each for the Posties to tie the match nicely at 6-6. With the both teams then taking a frame each, the match went in to a deciding final frame with Len Donnelly securing the win for QuinnsMuppets and seeing them move up a spot in the table to 4th but with no change for the Posties still in 7th. Court By The Cops hosted the PSL Lions and with the Lions rooted to the foot of the table and the Cops one place above, this had the potential to be a close match and, by the end of the second session the Lions were still in touch with the match being only 6-4 down. The Cops however decided to stamp their authority on the match in the final session taking the next 4 frames in a row and securing a comfortable win in the end for the Cops, with Stephen Edgley taking the final consolation frame for the Lions leaving no change in table position for either but, with the Cops putting more daylight between themselves and the Lions. Top of the table Court Gold took on the Heron Warlordsand Gold did their league status no harm at all with this relatively comfortable win over the Warlords. With Gold winning all 3 sessions including a ‘break and dish’ both from Ben Bushby and Sam Boome, Gold have placed even more daylight between themselves at the top of the table and their nearest rivals however, this match also saw the Warlords slip two places to 6th. Court Larking About have retained 3rd spot in the table despite being defeated playing away at the Bluebell R Backteam which also saw the latter, climb a spot in to 5th. Bluebell were 6-4 up by the end of the second session which also included a ‘break & dish’ by Larking About’s Ben Prowen. Bluebell then heaped further misery on the Court team by taking 4 frames out of the last 5, including a ‘break & dish’ by Bluebell’s Luke Watkins, leaving Bluebell in a very tight mid-table chasing pack. The Jet Wednesday league 5th July, had the featured YouTube Live-stream match showing the top of the table clash with the Court Snapbacks taking on the Court Jesters. With the Jesters already possessing a sizable lead over their nearest rivals in the table, both teams had good reason for a win here. Snapbacks showed their intention early on by going in to a 4-2 lead but, the Jesters came straight back with 3 frames won in a row however, with Liam Ayres then taking the 10th frame for the Snapbacks, it was all tied at 5-5 going in to the last session. With the Snapbacks also taking the 11th and with it, the lead once again via Sam Boome’s ‘break & dish’, the momentum was with the Snapbacks once again and that’s as good as it got for the Snapbacks with the Jesters showing their pedigree under pressure by taking the last 4 frames in a row with Mick Defraine confirming the team win in the 14th. While this leaves no change in table position for both, it certainly leaves the Jesters in a stronger position at the top.
PSL Aint Going Down confirmed their 4th win in a row when they took on Court Gimme A Break at home, just. This was a very close match with advantage going to one team and then the other throughout. It was all tied going in to the last session and still the ‘nip and tuck’ continued leaving the match with a 15th frame decider, and with Rob Mills pinching it for PSL, this leaves Gimme A Break still in 3rd in the table but with PSL moving up one more spot into 4th. Bottom of the table Court At The Bar ended a run of 4 straight losses when they took on Parkway at home. Court At The Bar went 6-3 up and were looking good for a win however, mid table Parkway had other ideas by kicking back in with John Roe and Gareth Mears pulling two more frames back for Parkway. The last session swung one way and then the other leaving Court At The Bar’s Michael Harrisontaking the all important 14th frame and the team’s win with it, seeing Parkway slip a place in the table and also leaving Court At The Bar now tied in last place with the Postie Pats. Postie Pats needed a win at home against the Court Kids to move away from the bottom of the table, and did their case no harm at all by going in to a 5-2 lead against their close rivals. But the Kids were having none of it and took the next 3 frames through Ivan Knight, Joe Haywood and Ben Prowen, tying the match going in to the last session. With Patch Hensey, Kev Pike and Martyn Allen taking 3 out of the 5 frames for the Postie’s, they secure their 3rd win of the season however, leaving no changes in table positions, for either team. The Stanground Carpets & Flooring Thursday League, 6thJuly, had the featured YouTube Live-stream match between Court Gold and Cross Keys Silver. With a 3-2 session a-piece for the first two sessions, including a ‘break & dish’ for Gold’s Sam Boome and Joel Scott, this relatively even match was set up nicely for the last session. This too was a close affair with the match going in to a last frame decider with Silver’s Mick Defraine coming out victorious over Gold’s Andy Bunton. This victory saw Silver move up in to second in the table with Gold still holding on to top spot. Heron Warlords secured a very convincing win at home to Bluebell R Back. At 5-3 to the Warlords by the end of the 8thframe, they then took 6 out of the last 7 frames with Dee Coogan securing the win in the 11th for the Warlords. With Shane Wood taking a consolation frame in the last session for Bluebell, this result see’s the Warlords move up in to 4th while the Bluebell are now tied on points with the Posites. The Court Posties took on Court By The Cops and things weren’t looking too bad for the Posties by the end of the first session with the score at close 3-2 to Court By The Cops however, any sign of that vein continuing quickly disappeared. The Cops then took the next 8 frames in a row, including Craig Harbisher ensuring the win in the 10th frame. Darren Hope and Mark Killock took two consolation frames for the Posties in the last session however, this match was already long gone and the result see’s the Posties slip to 7th in the table and The Cops still in 8th spot, but still with a game in hand. The Jet Wednesday league, 28th June, saw the featured YouTube Live-feed match between top of the table Court Jesters at home to the Postie Pat’s. This was always going to be a tall order for the Pat’s and so it proved as, by the end of the second session, Jesters only needed one more frame to secure the win with 5 more frames still to play. Darren Hopeconfirmed the win for the Jesters in the 11th, and with Gordon Wilks taking a consolation last frame for the Pats, the Jesters have now put even more daylight between themselves in top spot and the chasing pack.
Courts Kids took on the Court Snapbacks and the Kids certainly didn’t let the Snapbacks have an easy ride, despite the gap between them both in the table. It was a tight affair across all 3 sessions with the Snapback’s taking each 3-2 however and, while there was also the notable ‘break & dish’ from Ben Prowen for the Kids, the win was secured for the Snapbacks by Sean Hackett in the 13th frame, leaving the Snapback’s still holding on to 2nd spot in the table, but with the Kids slipping a place to 6th. Parkway were at home to PSL Ain’t Going Down and this match saw the latter continue their good form of late with a 3rdwin in a row and a place further up the table gained in the process. With Rob Mills achieving a ‘break & dish’ in the 5thand Kris Lord securing the win by the 9th, this was looking like a very convincing win for PSL. The final session was no different to the first two which saw PSL take it 4-1. Parkway’s Jamie Dye took both his frames that helped to secure histeam’s place in 4th position in the table, just. Court Gimme A Break hosted Court At The Bar with the former taking the first session 4-1 however, all ideas that this was going to be a walk-over for Gimme A Break playing the team at the bottom of the table, were quickly quashed when Court At The Bar came back with a 4-1 second session win of their own – Paul Machin squaring things ups going in to the final session. However, Gimme A Break turned it on again with a repeat of their first session score-line with Liz Dizneywinning the vital 14th frame. Gimme A Break hold on to 3rdspot and Court At The Bar still foot of the table, just. Thursday 29th June saw the Stanground Carpets & Flooring Thursday League resume after the previous week’s Jet Knockout cup semi-finals. The featured YouTube Live-feed match almost saw Court Larking About inflict a complete white-wash over Heron Warlords. Larking about stormed in to an 8-0 lead to secure the match with a Scott Beasley win however, they weren’t finished there – taking another 5 frames in a row, a 15-0 was definitely on the cards and with Ivan Knight then stepping up for Larking About in the 14th frame and producing a ‘clean-break’, the Warlords Liz Dizney approached the table to produce an excellent 8 ball clearance, white-wash avoided! Larking About jump up to 2ndspot in the table with no change for the Warlords in 7th. Court By The Cops took on Quinns Muppets at home and this match was over by the end of the 9th frame with Anthony Pask securing the win for the Muppets with 6 frames still to play. The Cops however made it a much more respectable overall score-line by taking the last session 4-1 leaving the Cops still one place off the foot of the table but, with the Muppets moving up one place to 4th spot. Bluebell R Back hosted Cross Keys Silver and with Silver at 5-1 up, Luke Watkins and Andy Cook for the Bluebell then came back with two frames in a row to halt the slide. This then became a nip & tuck match because, with 4 frames then in a row for Silver once again and Mick Defraine securing the win in the 11th, Silver were not able to capitalize further, with Bluebell then taking the last 3 frames of the match making it a more respectable score-line. This keeps Bluebell 6th in the table and Silver only slipping to 3rd courtesy of Court Larking About’s huge win over the Heron Warlords. ‘PSL Ain’t Going Down start the move back up’ The Jet Wednesday league, 21st June, saw PSL Ain’t Going Down at home to the Postie Pats and after the first session it was looking comfortable for PSL taking it 4-1. The second session saw Posties Pats make it a closer affair, winning it 3-2 however, whilst Gordon Wilks for the Pats tightened things up even further with an 11th frame win, Kris Lord, Gary Sell and Adam Mills took 3 in a row for PSL in the final session and with it the 9-6 win, which saw them lift off the bottom of the table in to 6th position. Top of the table Court Jesters were away at Parkway and by the end of the second session, this match was already out of sight for Parkway with the Jesters 8-2 up helped, in no small way, with the Jester’s Steve Singh taking both his frames with a ‘break & dish!’ Parkway took 2 more frames via John Roe and Lynn Bridger in the final session but this convincing win for the Jesters saw them increase their lead at the top of the table. Court Gimme A Break took on the Court Kids and by the end of the second session, it was level-pegging with both teams taking a session each 3-2. By the end of the penultimate frame it was still all square at 7 a-piece leaving Carl Watkins for Gimme A Break going head to head against Ivan Knight for the Kids with the former taking the honours and in doing so, the win that see’s Gimme A Break securing their 3rdposition in the table. The featured YouTube Live-feed match saw Court Snapbacks against Court At The Bar. The first session was a comfortable one for the Snapbacks and with Court At TheBar then taking the next session 3-2, it was clear the Snapbacks weren’t going to have an easy ride. Court At The Bar’s John Lord took the 13th frame, not to mention his other two frames also, one of which was a cool ‘break & dish’, narrowing the Snapbacks lead to just one, but with Sean Hackett and Scott Beasley taking the last two frames, the win was achieved for the Snapbacks leaving them holding on well to second place but with Court At The Bar slipping to the bottom of the table. The Stanground Carpets & Flooring Thursday League, 22nd June, was put on hold for the Jet Knockout Cup Semi-finals. The featured YouTube Live-feed match saw Court Gold at home to Quinn’s Muppets playing for a place in the final and even with Anthony Pask for the Muppet’s taking both his frames, this turned out to be a very easy passage for Gold with a very convincing 8-2 win with Andy Buntontaking the all important 10th frame and the match not needing the 3rd and final session. The second semi-final match was an altogether different affair. Cross Keys Silver were drawn at home to Court By The Cops. The first two sessions were honours even with a 3-2 win for each team, with Lloyd Robinson for the Cross Keys achieving a ‘break & dish’ during the second session. By the 14th frame the teams still couldn’t be split with the score now at 7-7, the match headed into a final frame ‘Black Ball Shoot-Out’ to decide the winner – Cross Keys Silver took the honours 5-3 confirming their place in the final – this ‘shoot-out’ was captured ‘live’ and can be viewed on our Facebook page. The Jet Wednesday league, 14th June, saw normal league matches resume after last week’s knockout cup. The featured YouTube Live-feed match saw Court Jesters and Court Kids go head to head and the Jesters certainly ceased their opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table. With the match already won by the 10th frame with Andy Bunton securing victory, the Kids then came back in the final session with wins from Ivan Knight and Ryan Anderson but it was too little too late, and the Jesters had a very comfortable win under their belts, increasing the daylight between themselves and second place.
PSL Aint Going Down were at home to Court At The Bar and this was looking like a very assured win was on the cards for PSL as, by the 8th frame, they were 7-1 up, with James Bennett taking the solitary frame for Court At The Bar. However, with Lisa Fitter, Michael Harrison and Steve Owlett then taking 3 frames in a row for the Court team, it was suddenly looking like PSL had a fight on their hands. It then kicked in again for PSL with Kris Lord securing the match in the all important 12th frame, and while they still remain bottom of the table, it’s much closer now between the bottom 3 teams. Parkway were at home to Court Gimme A Break. By the end of the 2nd session, Gimme a Break were a convincing 7-3 up. With Parkway’s James Harford then taking the 11th frame and the match to 7-4, Gimme A Break then kicked back in with Liz Disney taking the 12th, and with it, the win. John Roe and Gareth Mears took a frame apiece as a consolation for Parkway however, this win for Gimme A Break now increases the gap between them in 3rd and Parkway in 4th, in the table. Court Snapbacks played away at the Postie Pats and, with the Snapbacks in second place in the table, a win was vital over the Posties so as not to lose further ground on the top team. The Snapbacks took the first two session’s 3-2 on each occasion setting themselves up nicely for the 3rd and final session. The win was confirmed with Liam Ayres, Sam Boome and Jamie Stokes taking 3 in a row for the Snapbacks and with Martyn Allen for the Posties taking a final session consolation frame, it was win secured for the Snapbacks. The Stanground Carpets & Flooring Thursday League, 15th June, saw the featured YouTube Live-feed match between Court By The Cops And Court Larking About. At 7-3 to Larking About by the end of the second session, it was always going to be a tall order for the Cops to take the next 5 in a row without reply to secure the win for themselves. And so it proved, with Craig Harbisher taking a solitary single frame for the Cops, and leaving Larking About with a convincing win, and still within touching distance of second place in the table. A mid-table clash between Heron Warlord’s and Crosskeys Silver, saw Crosskeys storm in to a unbeatable 10 frame lead after Ian Lea took the first frame for the Warlord’s. But even with a final session win for the Warlords with Liz Disney, Gareth Mears, Graham Tilley taking a frame each, Crosskeys got the win they needed to see them secure second place in the table. Court Posties still managed to hang on to 3rd spot in the table despite a heavy defeat by Court Gold. With the Posties being only 4-3 down it wasn’t looking too bad for them however, with Gold taking the next 7 in a row, the match was suddenly out of sight for the Posties. Even with a last frame consolation for Kev Boon for the Posties, Gold have now extended their considerable lead at the top of the table. PSL Lions took on Bluebell R Back on home turf. It was 7-3 up to Bluebell by the end of the second session and, with Martin Edgley then taking frame no. 11 for the Lions, any thoughts of a comeback were quickly extinguished when Luke Watkins secured the match for Bluebell seeing them move up the table but with the Lions still firmly rooted to the bottom. A warm welcome is extended from the committee of the PWR League to all teams participating in this, our inaugural season, welcome to one and all...good luck to everyone for the season to come and thank you for your support!
The Jet Wednesday league this week, 7th June, saw the Jet Knockout Cup Quarter-Finals take place. The featured YouTube Live-feed match was a top of the table clash between Court Snapbacks and Court Jesters. Chris Horn ‘got the ball rolling’ with the first frame won for the Jesters and it was a ‘nip & tuck’ affair from there until frame’s 7 and 8 where Ian Fountain and Sean Hackett for the Snapbacks took two in a row to start putting daylight between themselves and the Jesters. Frame 9 saw Darren Hope close the gap to just one frame for the Jesters, only for Scott Beasley of the Snapbacks to then leave a 2 frame gap once again in frame 10. Lee McShane and Darren Hope brought the match to level-pegging in the 3rd session for the Jesters with 2 frames won in a row and the match was looking as if it was now heading towards a 7-7 ‘Blackball Shootout’ deciding frame however, Sean Hackett and Jamie Stokes for the Snapbacks had other ideas with 2 frames won in a row leaving a closely run match as an 8-6 win for Court Snapbacks…semi-finals now beckon! Tony Clark’s team PSL Aint Going Down made home advantage count with a comfortable win against Court Kids, and whilst it was a fairly close finish at the end of the first session with PSL taking it 3-2, the second session saw them take 5 frames in a row, with Rob Mills taking the decisive 10th frame, not requiring the 3rd session, to secure safe passage through to the semi-finals. Tracey Allen’s Parkway team took the short hop across the Boulevard to Pat Hensey’s Postie Pats. The first session was a tight affair with the Postie’s taking a 3-2 lead in the first session. The second session however was a totally different outcome. Even with the Parkway being a man down throughout the match, it was still a clean sweep for the games played. At 6-4 up for Parkway going in to the final session, John Roe and Tracey Allen took a frame each, either side of Perry Saunders taking one more for the Postie’s, leaving the Parkway as 8-5 winners…semi-finals now await for Parkway. The fourth and final cup match of the night saw Court At The Bar at home to Court Gimme a Break. This proved to be a relatively easy route through to the semi-finals for Gimme a Break with John Lord and Michael Harrison taking a frame each for Court at the Bar across the first and second session but, with Gimme a Break taking 8 frames, with Carl Watkins taking the all important and decisive 10th frame, this gave Gimme a Break a comfortable 8-2 win. The SCF Thursday League this week, 8th June, saw normal league fixtures take place. The featured YouTube Live-feed match was once again, a top of the table clash, between Court Gold and Quinn’s Muppets. This match was won by frame 8 with Ady Bonsor confirming the win for Court Gold. Sam Boome made it 11 frames in a row for Court Gold before the Quinns got off the mark in the 12th frame with P. Brown and P. Dewey for the Quinn’s taking 2 frames in a row, possible whitewash avoided. However, Court Gold kicked back in once again and took the last two frames for a very convincing win putting a lot of daylight between themselves at the top of the table and Quinn’s, who still managed to hang on to 2nd spot. Heron Warlord’s were at home to PSL Lion’s. The first session was closely fought with G. Tilley for the Warlord’s just nicking it and taking it to 3-2. With D. Clark for the Lion’s taking the 6th frame and the match to 3-3, there was really no sign of things to come, with the Warlord’s taking the next 9 frames in a row, running out as convincing winners for the match. Bluebell R Back were at home to Court Postie’s. This was a close match with Bluebell always staying just in front until frames 8 and 9 respectively where, Luke Watkins and Andy Cook took two in a row to open up a 3 frame lead over the Postie’s. But with Pat Hensey, Darren Hope and Aaron Clark next taking 3 in a row for the Postie’s and taking the match to 6 a piece, this was now perfectly set up for a best of final 3 frames to secure the win. Bluebell came out on top with 3 in a row with Andy Cook taking the all important 14th frame. Court Larking About were at home to Cross Keys Silver. First blood went to Larking About’s John Roe however, Cross Keys came storming back with 5 frames in a row and while Lewis Roberts for Larking About stopped the rot, Cross Keys immediately came back and took another 4 in a row with L. Wilkinson securing the all important win in the 10th frame. The final session was taken by Larking About 3-2 but in the end, it was a relatively comfortable win for Cross Keys Silver.
